Conversations on Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme spark new book on Global Business

OAMLP brings about many new realisations and relationships and it opens minds to new possibilities and ways of thinking. The cohort is often cited as one of the most critical aspects of the learning journey and indeed a true measure of success is the continued development of those relationships immediately and long after the participants return to their homes and work.

One such success was the relationship described by both gentlemen as a meeting of minds, between Mahesh K. Joshi, Chief Executive of L&T Valves, Director at L&T Valves and J.R. Klein, Principal of J.R. Global. The discussions that lasted way after the classes had concluded for the day led to a continuing friendship.

Professor Lalit Johri the Programme Director and Senior Fellow of International Business is also credited with creating magic with his suggestions and wise words that nudge participants to think about possibilities that make not seem obvious to at first but if taken as advised create paths never previously seen let alone explored for the individuals.

Whilst Mahesh was recording for his radio show Global Business on Voice of America Lalit proposed that he used these musings and interviews to write a book, indeed Lalit had equally been responsible for Mahesh agreeing to do the radio show! And so it began. Mahesh quickly realised that whilst he had all the raw material, he needed a co-conspirator, someone who would challenge him, knew him and would enhance the outcome of the book.

Lalit generously offered the resources that come with Oxford University Press (OUP)and the team decided to make a concerted effort to create the book, culminating in 2 weeks in Egrove Park with Faculty on hand to support, develop and help finesse ideas.

The book Global Business by OUP was launched to coincide with the current Oxford Advanced Management and Leadership Programme and indeed the Alumni Awards evening. We were treated to J.R. Klein regaling his touching stories about his family, his desire to help people to think and his humorous account of the writing process. Mahesh was joined by his proud family to share his views of how and why the book came about and further that the whole thing had been so exciting that in fact books 2, 3 and 4 are already scoped!
